The Florida DEVO Program has been formed to provide all Juniors,Coaches, and Teams in Florida with a development structure and budget with clear objectives to support and develop Juniors across the state.
The vision is to see all Coaches and Teams working together towards developing Juniors into great athletes and better citizens.
The mission is to provide a clear, proactive, funded and consistent structure for all involved.
The startup budget will be funded by the Florida Cycling Foundation and founding individuals and teams, and it will grow with the support of additional individual and team donors and sponsors.
The Objectives of the program are to provide:
1. Juniors 15-16, 17-18, 19-21 a path to enjoy the benefits of a supporting structure.
2. Coaches and Teams across Florida a path to expand the opportunities for their Juniors.
3. Sponsors a path to support the future of cycling in Florida.
The Structure of the program will be based on the following 4 blocks / functions:
• Education
• Competition
• Integration
• Connection
• Education The program will offer 2 discovery camps every year in December and January to give all Juniors an opportunity to meet other Juniors across Florida and Coaches and opportunity to work together.
• Competition The program will select 3 national level events for the Juniors to enjoy traveling together, and to gain experience hanging around and racing with Juniors at a national level.
There will be regular discussions about the Tour of Ireland, Tour de l’Abitibi, and other events alike that will be evaluated based on quantity and quality of riders and the program’s budget.
• Integration. The program will provide Juniors the opportunity when appropriate to guest ride for Elite and Cat 3 teams around the state. This will allow the Juniors to experience various styles and cultures, improve their skills, and enjoy a higher level of competition. The decision here will be left up to the coach who is developing that Junior.
• Connection. The program will provide Juniors access to our relationships with college coaches and professional team directors around the country. This will allow the Juniors to save time and stress in searching and deciding, receive guidance from people in the know, and make a timely and prudent decision.
The Budget of the program will facilitate the following expenses:
• Compensation. The program wants every Coach in Florida to have a vested interest in the program, and it has allocated funds to compensate and reimburse expenses to Coaches and Staff.
• Support. The program wants all Juniors to have the ability to partake in the program, and it has allocated funds to support Juniors in reducing their costs and to subsidy Juniors in financial need. Please contact the program leaders if you are a Junior in financial need.
• Awards. The program wants to recognize and reward special achievements on and off the bike, and has allocated funds to ensure Juniors remain highly motivated.
